Gay Cheese, sculpture, since 2013
Any kind of cheese, labeled “Gay Cheese”. Served in art galleries. Meant to be eaten. Identity is a word, and as such it is subject to the instability of language. Conceived in collaboration with Robert Zurenko.

First served in 2013 at the Kresge Art Center in East Lansing, Michigan State University. One cube of parmesan, on a dish, a knife, and a label identifying the cheese as gay. The show was up for two weeks. Every morning I replaced the cheese and sanitized the dish & knife.
In 2014 I served it again as a 1-night intervention for an exhibition reception at Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art, in Lansing, Michigan. Two pounds of diced cheddar, on a metallic tray, some picks and a label identifying the cheese as gay.
A third serving happened in 2015 in Criciúma, Brazil, as part of an exhibition curated by the Murro collective (Ramayana Lira and Alessandra Brandão). The cheese was set up by local artists Ana Clara Piccolo and Vanessa Biff, at Casa da Cultura Neusa Nunes Vieira.
