Arte InterCIDADES. An itinerant program of urban intervention by Brazilian and US artists, presented in Joinville-Brazil and Lansing-Michigan, 2013.
Original scores by: Roland Graf, Ale Mello, Desiree Duell, Dylan Wahl, Elise Toups, Coletivo Laborativo, Nilton Tirotti, Priscila dos Anjos, Ryan Groendyk, and Teresa Siewerdt.
Arte InterCIDADES was a curated program based on the exchange of scores for performances. Working with curators Alena Marmo and James L. Lawton, we selected ten original scores, five from Brazilian artists based in Joinville, Santa Catarina, and five from US artists based in Lansing, Michigan. We then arranged for the execution of the ten scores in public locations of both cities, through a series of international collaborations that we mediated. The works were first presented in Brazil in July of 2013, and then in Lansing in October–November. The differences between realizations became part of the exhibition. The same proposal encountered different transit systems, public habits, languages, and available materials. Curatorial work included selecting proposals that could be communicated across distance, coordinating their realization, producing documentation, critical writings and the design of a catalog. Funded by the Joinville SIMDEC grant, and supported by Michigan State University and Lansing City Council.
