Ações de Emergência: Monumento ao Imigrante. A curated program of urban intervention. Joinville, Brazil, 2020-2022.
With original interventions by: Francisca Silva, Nicole Leite, Coletivo N8+HP (Herminio Pagnoncelli, Thiago Maso, Luisa Carvalho and Humberto Carta) and Luana Wilk.
Developed from discussions about the artist’s role during the pandemic at the University of Joinville, this program invited artists to respond to the then deteriorated and vandalized Monumento ao Imigrante by Fritz Alt. The program approached the monument as a place where care, historical representation, and public responsibility could be tested through artistic action. The project connected an open call, production support, public presentation, and a retrospective publication. It was independently supported through donations, with R$500 allocated to each selected proposal.
The Covid19 pandemic delayed the execution of the program, which unfolded over three years: Francisca Silva’s Partes Invisíveis and Nicole Leite’s Distração in November 2020; Coletivo N8+HP’s intervention in September 2021; and Luana Wilk’s Memória em Risco in August 2022.
